Diagnosable Mental Disorders

It is estimated that 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorders in a year. Scary, that’s more than one fourth of all adults.

A smaller portion suffer from a serious mental illness, 6% or 1 in 17.

Nearly one half or almost one half, 45% meet the criteria for 2 or more disorders according to the same source.

Mental disorders are the leading cause of disabilities in our country in the ages 15-44 years of age according to the World Health Report of 2004. I wonder if it has increased in recent years with all the stress.
