The Union Gospel Mission is a place that provides a Christian community for people who need their help. It provides a safe, caring environment that helps people with dignity and compassion and gives them hope.
They have two meal service opportunities at the mission. One is the Dining with Dignity meal that begins at 5:15 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Churches volunteer to help serve there, and they often need apporximately 8-10 people. There is the Agape meal on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The group usually arives at 3:35 p.m. to prepae the meal. An Agape meal costs about $150.00 for a Saturday meal and $250.00 for a Sunday meal. Donations help.
They have a Sunday Service at the mission for people from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
On Tuesday nights they have Overcomer’s Outreach from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
On Wednesday they have a Women’s Bible Study Group i nthe Dining room from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
On Thursdays they have an Open Bible Study from 1:20-2:30 p.m.
On Thursday there is a Men’s Bible Study in the dining room from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
They have had some occasional weddings, funerals and even birthday parties there. Area churches send volunteers and youth groups to help with a kids craft club, prayers groups, and other ideas that you may be interested in helping with. As you can tell volunteers are always needed at the mission.
In August they need school supplies for the Mission children. They also need hygiene items.
At Chritmas time they need clothing ideas and toys for kids as well as stocking stuffers.
The best way to show them that God loves them is for us to love and treat them with respect and kindness. The poor, hungry and lonely people need help at the mission.
There are special events at the mission all week long. There are movies at 2:00 p.m. on Mondays and Friday’s.
They serve breakfast and lunch during the weekdays. Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. and lunch is at noon.
During the year they have special events. They celebrate Valentine’s Day, have an Easter Dinner in April, a basket/hygiene kit drive in April. There is summer camp registration in April. The Mail Carriers have a food drive in May. There is the client’s picnic in July. They recognize their volunteers in September. In November they have Thansgiving turkey baskets and a blanket drive. December brings about a Christmas Children’s Party. They are welcome to new idears as well.
