A study by the Mayo Clinic found that statins (the cholesterol lowering prescription medications) that nearly 1/4 of patients take over 45 years of age reduce esophageal cancer by 1/3. This comes from scientists at the Mayo Clinic. There were 13 review studies that showed that taking aspirin along with statins lowered the danger by 72%. Statins have anti-inflammatory affects.
Inflammation promotes cancer according to Dr. Singh. Statins may have an impact on cancerous by-products and for sure we know cholesterol.
There is another study out that was presented at the AHA meeting that states that good bacteria in the supplement, Lactobacillus reuteri neutralizes the bile acids responsible for transporting cholesterol to the blood. This information comes from Dr. Johns. They are now saying that good bacteria in the gut helps with metabolism, obesity and fatty liver disease.
Esophageal cancer is on the rise. It has a low survival rate. I can’t help but wonder what is causing this? Could it be smoking, acid foods, or even untreated re flux ? I had a relative die of mouth cancer from owning a band and working in smoke filled bars all his life.
